Chris Ball

After 10 years overseeing sales and global strategy for an energy technology company that’s become a global powerhouse, the opportunity to help a high-tech automotive start-up is music to Chris Ball’s ears. It helps of course that he’s a “motorcycle tragic” who grew up bouncing between motocross
events in his native Queensland. But ultimately, Chris’s commitment to Savic Motorcycles stems from a deep-seated belief that he can help the company – and the C-Series – kick some goals in global markets.

Chris began his career in the oil and gas industry and moved into power distribution technology, before completing the circle as a critical cog in the renewables chain. Today, TGOOD Global builds thousands of sub-stations and power products that connect solar and wind farms to electrical grids
all over the world.

Since Chris and two colleagues established TGOOD Global in Hong Kong in 2015, they’ve delivered 400 projects in 17 countries, and are today regarded as the world’s leading manufacturer of industrial-scale ‘E-Houses’, as well as its largest provider of EV charging infrastructure.

So isn’t Savic Motorcycles a tad too small and specialised for his portfolio? “Not at all,” says Chris. “I’m so impressed with Dennis’s team and what they’ve managed to develop on such a tight budget. Besides, adding value into a segment I’m so passionate about is going to be great fun!”

As TGOOD’s Chief of Sales, Chris oversees the company’s global marketing strategy, developing new markets, products, and the supply chains and joint ventures to deliver them – a job that sees him “more on the road than off it”. A lot of that time is spent in China, where TGOOD manufactures most of its specialised power systems and solutions – giving Chris access to a level of engineering and product lifecycle management expertise he believes could benefit Savic as it considers broader-scale global manufacturing of certain systems and components.

“In both our industries the barriers to entry are extremely high, and Dennis is going to come up against some rapidly-emerging manufacturers,” says Chris. “But that’s totally fine because Savic has such an agile and flexible EV platform, which they can adapt and bolt on all sorts of OEM equipment to – giving them unique opportunities to develop and evolve other aspects of the business.

“I think that Dennis has an extremely exciting business model, and he’s backed by this wonderful young team who are really bright and committed to the project. The future really is theirs for the taking.”
