When Savic Motorcycles’ customers begin to receive the C-Series electric motorcycle, they’ll be able to count on something that’s absolutely crucial for discerning riders: delivery by people who know and love motorcycles.
Wherever you live in Australia, your C-Series will pass through the hands of Cass and Rob Colligan from Moto Logistix, a couple with an unmatched pedigree in the world of motorcycle transport. Rob comes from the legendary Colligan family, who count a national sidecar champion in their ranks, and was riding bikes by the age of three.
“We get what motorcyclists want and need, and nothing is more important to us than getting your bike to you in perfect nick,” says Rob.
That involves a finely-honed science of strapping the bike upright in the back of the Colligans’ Moto Logistix truck, securing it by the axles and swingarm to ensure it won’t move an inch during its journey.
Rob and Cass set up Moto Logistix in Perth in 2012. After a short stint in Singapore, they relocated to Melbourne in 2020 to expand their operations up the east coast. Today, Rob spends more time on the road than off it – transporting bikes to Sydney and Brisbane, with runs to Adelaide and onto Perth by rail.
The Moto Logistix promise – to keep your bike secure and tracked the whole time it is in their possession – is made possible by the company’s small size, and its intimately managed staff and partners.
“Larger transporters carry dozens of bikes in semi-trailers, but they can’t get down city streets, which means relying on a network of smaller transporters – not to mention your bike sitting at a depot somewhere along its journey,” explains Rob. “It’s very hard for companies in our industry to guarantee that your bike will be with them the whole time.”
“Our reputation is built on our boutique size,” says Cass, “which means we can offer flexibility that surpasses the industry standard – and we promise a door-to-door service, with as little double handling as possible.”
“We employ motorcyclists, not truck drivers,” adds Rob. “If you don’t ride, you don’t work for Moto Logistix.”
Rob and Cass first met with Dennis in early 2021, since then they’ve been fully committed to ensuring the Savic Motorcycles team realise their dream. Moto Logistix has already proved its stripes by transporting our prototypes to exhibition halls, galleries, museums, and compliance and testing sites across the country – including across the Nullarbor for testing by Dennis and Dave Hendroff.
“The dealers we work with are all very excited to see us working with such a specialised manufacturer,” says Rob. “The Savic Motorcycles story is a big deal for Australian motorcyclists, who are all rooting for them because they’re Australian. Everyone who cares about motorcycles in Australia wants to see Savic Motorcycles succeed.”
Most people who care about motorcycles in Australia will also have brushed shoulders with Rob and Cass – whether they know it or not.
“I’ve been around motorcycles every day for over 50 years,” says Rob. “As a kid, I grew up thinking that the Easter bunny lived at Mount Panorama,” he laughs – referring to the legendary racing festival that graced Bathurst through the 1970s and 80s.
Rob’s life has been on two wheels for most of his recent career. As well as hosting visitors to the Australian MotoGP and World Superbike events, he’s taken tours to the Malaysian MotoGP, tested bikes, tyres and gear for Two Wheels magazine, and served as a judge for the magazine’s Bike of the Year award. He’s also been a prominent advocate for motorbike safety, as Chairman of the Motorcycle Council of NSW, and helped set up the National Motorcycle Alliance to provide roadside assistance for motorcyclists.
Cass also describes herself as “a bike lover”, growing up on a farm in NSW where she spent her childhood “in the saddles of horses and dirt bikes”.
Rob, who owns a “heavily modified” Kawasaki ZX-9R, rode the C-Series during our first prototype tour up the Pacific Highway out of Sydney.
“I can’t wait to get on the next iteration,” he says. “I’m looking forward to riding out to the Black Spur and terrifying some young blokes on their sports bikes!”
You know he’s (mostly) joking, though. Rob wouldn’t put a scratch on a motorcycle.
